Daugelis įrenginių turi savus pavadinimus, pavyzdžiui: ↑kompiuteris, ↑serveris. Nėra aiškios ribos tarp įrenginių ir įtaisų. Tobulėjant elektronikai, kompiuterijos įrenginių matmenys daug kartų sumažėjo, jie iš pažiūros tapo paprastesni ir juos imta vadinti įtaisais. Pavyzdžiui, apie 1980 m. 100 MB diskų atminties įrenginys buvo spintos dydžio.
